Havana, May 25 (ACN).- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel mourned the death of Miguel Cuevas, one of the emblematic figures of Cuban baseball.

Don Miguel Cuevas, fearsome slugger of the National Series, has passed away; as one of the founders of him he starred in the first outs, stolen bases and runs, the head of state wrote in X's account of him.

    Díaz-Canel assured that the prestigious athlete who when he died was 89 years old will be remembered for the timely offensive with a wooden bat and study of the opponent. 

    With his message, the president sent condolences to the Camagüey-born's family and friends.

    Born in February 1935, Cuevas debuted in the first National Series wearing the colors of Azucareros at the age of 26 and remained for 13 seasons, standing out as a right-handed hitter.

    During his successful career with the Azucareros, Orientales, Granjeros and Camagüey teams, he had an offensive average of .279 with 880 hits, including 127 doubles, 17 triples and 83 home runs.
