Havana, Jul 10 (JIT) - The preparation of the Cubans who will soon compete under the five rings continued on Tuesday on Spanish soil, where they won three gold medals and a silver medal at the International Athletics Meeting Ciudad de Malaga.
Among those who dominated events was Yunisleydis García, the fastest in the hectometre with a time of 11.42 seconds. Although it is true that she is not yet close to the times she achieved last year, this time she was enough to beat Ecuador's Aimara Nazareno (11.63) and the host Alba Borrero (11.67).
Long jumper Alejandro Parada also came out on top, although beyond his success, it is important to highlight his recovery process from the injuries that kept him out of competition.
The Santiago native achieved a top jump of 7.82 metres to beat Venezuela's Gerson Vidal and local Alberto Martínez, both of whom were second in that order, despite both having reached 7.21 metres.
The third golden prize for the island was won by Silinda Morales after sending the implement to 58.70 metres. Her triumph was somewhat comfortable, as her closest rival was Spain's Inés López (54.16m). In third place was Poland's Veronica Muszynska, who had a best throw of 52.91 metres.
There was a double Cuban presence in the 400m event, but the best performance came from Roxana Gómez with a second place, more relevant for her time than for her position. The Cienfuegos athlete covered the distance in 50.46 seconds, her best time this season and valid to enter the finish line behind Barein's Salwa Eid Naser (49.88), world champion of the speciality in Doha 2019.
French Emma Montoya (59.19) completed the podium, while Cuba's Sahily Diago (55.59) finished eighth, although her main objective was to calibrate her strength ahead of inclusion in the women's 4x400m relay that will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This Friday all the attention will be focused on the Herculis EBS International Athletics Meeting in Monaco, the ninth stop of the Diamond League 2024, which will count on 10 recent European champions.
Among the latter will be Spain's Ana Peleteiro in the Triple Jump event, where Cuba's Leyanis Pérez and Liadagmis Povea will be looking to steal her thunder.
Leyanis has dominated the Eugene and Stockholm rounds, and even has a record of 15.16m at the Guadalajara meeting, but it could not be homologated due to wind above the allowed height.
