Havana, Aug 30 (ACN) Cuba will face Libya this Friday in search of the success that will keep it in the quest for the ninth and 12th places in the U17 men's volleyball World Championship, to be held until Saturday in Sofia, Bulgaria.
According to the International Federation's website www.fivb.com, the Cubans will face the Libyans after achieving their first victory in the competition, since they finished fourth and last in Group C with three consecutive setbacks, and another in the round of 16.
On Thursday, the largest of the Antilles defeated Tunisia 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-21) in the battle for the ninth through 16th places, a result that guaranteed them at least a ninth-place finish.
Libya also won on Thursday with a 3-2 success (25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13) over Puerto Rico, a team that will face Tunisia for the 13th to 16th places.
The group phase took place in a round-robin system, the results of which determined their starting positions for the single elimination rounds in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, semifinals and final on Saturday.
