Havana, Nov 4 (RHC) - The duo of Andy Pereira and Jorge Moises Campos were crowned champions at the WTT Feeder Caracas, in which Cuban players won five medals.

In a vibrant match that lasted five sets, the Pan American champions of Santiago de Chile 2023 defeated a team from China, the world's leading power, for the gold medal.

The Cubans were losing 2-1 against the young Chinese Youde Kang and Xiankin Ning, but came back at the end of the match to win the last two sets 11-7, 11-9.

The president of the Cuban Federation of that sport, Bárbaro Oliva, described the match as "heart-stopping" and attributed the triumph to a change of strategy.

"They had to come from behind after losing two straight sets. We went out to change the strategy, because at pure speed it was almost impossible to win," he said in statements to the digital newspaper Jit Oliva, who coached the Cuban pair in the tournament.

The official also praised the rest of the performances, completed with another four medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals.

Jorge Moises himself joined forces with Daniela Fonseca to win the silver medal in the mixed doubles, after losing to India's Krittwika Roy and Hermeet Degai, in another electrifying duel.

The bronze medals this time went to Daniela Fonseca and Rosalba Aguiar in the singles and to Daniela as a partner of Estela Crespo in the women's doubles.

Starting this Monday, the tournament continues in the Venezuelan capital with the beginning of the Youth Contender, which will gather players under 19 years of age.

Three Cuban players will take part.
