Luis Ernesto Quesada

Havana, Nov 5 (ACN) With 5.5 points in seven rounds and benefited by the tiebreaker system to reach the third place, Cuban Luis Ernesto Quesada said goodbye to the Perla de la Frontera Chess Tournament in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

The current champion of the Island finished with the same accumulation as five other players, including his teammate Abel Fabian Lopez, placed fourth in the general ranking.

Quesada won five games, agreed a draw and only lost once, precisely against the leader Sion Radamantys Galaviz, barely 19 years old and the main chess prospect in Mexico.

Galaviz is predicted to soon reach the goal of becoming a Grandmaster and the impressive closing of four consecutive victories with which he took possession of the scepter now ratifies such criteria.

The 19-year-old completed six units and beat Joshua Avila, also from Mexico, who climbed to second place thanks to his victory in the last round over Spain's Jose Fernando Cuenca.

A total of 108 players from four nations participated in the event, which also included a Blitz segment, won by Cuenca, with six scratches out of a possible seven. Abel Fabián finished in 14th place in this modality, with 4.5 units and Quesada did not play.
