Havana, Dec 26 (PL) Former players Lázaro Junco and Lázaro de la Torre lead the teams of Matanzas and Havana, respectively, for the tribute game for the 150th anniversary of the first official ball game in Cuba.
According to information provided by the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation (FCBS), the game will take place next Saturday at 10:00, local time, at the Palmar de Junco stadium in the city of Matanzas, where that historic challenge was officially registered.
The Matanzas team will be led by national stars such as former pitchers Rigoberto Rosique, Wilfredo and Fernandez Sanchez, former pitchers Gaspar Perez and Alfredo Garcia, all former members of Cuba teams and national champions with Henequeneros teams, along with former infielder Gerardo Rionda.
In addition to home run hitter Junco, the Matanzas roster includes former catchers Juan Manrique, Evelio Hernández, Barbaro Rosales, and Luis Ferrales, outfielders Wilfredo Menéndez, Vaisel Acosta, Marcos Walters and infielders Julio Germán Fernández, Arturo Sánchez, Alberto Díaz, Eduardo Cárdenas, Andrés Pérez, and Leonardo Goire.
The pitchers will be Lazaro Garro, Jonder Martinez, Roberto Alvarez, Eduardo Terry, Tomas Valido, Barbaro Rogelio Amores, Rafael Delgado, Guillermo Tortolo, Jesus Torriente, Luis Fernandez, and Ignacio Roca.
The Havana veterans' team will be led by Pedro Medina, Rodolfo Puente, Antonio Acea, Heriberto Corbea, José Elosegui, Ismael Triay, and Julián Sarría.
On the field will be Frank Camilo Morejón, Antonio Scull, Joyce Sú, Ernesto Sánchez, Yoandry Urgellés, Irakly Chirino, Leonardo Castrezana, Ernesto Morilla, José Antonio Soto, Miguel Ángel Yanes, and Andrés Moya.
De la Torre will be joined by Wilber Pérez, Frank Javier Menéndez, René Espín, Jorge Fumero, and Jorge Váldez.
