WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup 2016

The World Baseball Softball Confederation unveiled the groups and the Official Look for the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 in Gijang, South Korea.

The announcements mark 100 days to the opening of the VII WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup, the pinnacle platform in women’s baseball, which will be contested from September 3rd-11th.

For the opening round/group stage, the 12 nations of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 Gijang have been drawn into 3 groups of 4 and ordered by the following world rank:

1- 4-time defending world champions Madonna Japan will begin in Group B, along with Canada, European representative Netherlands and India.

2- Women’s Baseball World Cup 2014,

3- 3-place finishers United States and Australia (the “Emeralds”) which will begin the path “For the Title of World Champion” out of Group C, together with Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, while Pakistan will make its debut on the world stage in Group A, alongside Cuba, Venezuela and host nation, South Korea.

The top 2 nations from each group will advance and battle each other in the Super Round, which will determine the pairings for the world championship title game and the 3rd-4th place match.

However, the official tournament schedule will be released in the coming weeks, and the official tournament microsite of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 Gijang has been launched in 5 languages, including Korean.

Korea television giant, SBS, has been awarded the exclusive rights to serve as the host broadcaster of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 Gijang.

“Featuring the top female baseball players in the world, the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup in Gijang promises to be the most exciting spectacle of women’s baseball ever,” said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, “and that’s why WBSC is delighted to be revealing an elite new Official Look for this event to help create an electric atmosphere and memorable experience for both the athletes and viewers.”

Parallel, Official Look of the event and core visual elements complement the Official Emblem, and in addition to the aesthetic appeal, the tournament identity has been crafted to form an immediate connection with the power and prestige of the women’s baseball flagship event.

The Official Slogan is “For the Title of World Champion” whose new tagline represents a central and unified theme across the branding strategy and the merchandising/licensing of all Baseball World Cups.

The latest Official Look revealed by WBSC is part of an overall branding system comprising the WBSC Baseball World Cups and flagship Premier12™. The design suite is being produced by WORKS, the UK-based design firm that has rolled out the branding of some of biggest properties in world sport. The official hashtag of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World cup is #WomensBaseball.

 

Excellent Day for Latin America in Open Roland Garros

There was a great day for Latin America in the Open Roland Garros Tennis Tournament, the 2nd Grand Slam of the present season.

On Tuesday, the Latin-American match winners were: Argentinean Juan Mónaco, Facundo Bagnis and Carlos Berlocq, Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas, Puerto Rican Mónica Puig, Brazilian Teliana Pereira and Colombian Mariana Duque.

Monaco won his match against Uzbek Denis Istomin 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 7-5. Berlocq won his, after defeating Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2.

Bagnis had the victory over French Kenny de Schepper, by 6-0, 6-2 and 7-6 (7/2), in 2 hours and 5 minutes.

Cuevas, first Latin-American racket, needed 4 sets to beat the 155th player in the world ranking, German Tobias Kamke, with 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and 7-6 (7/4).

Monica Puig defeated Belarusian Olga Govortsova 7-5 and 6-3, to face British Johanna Konta or German Julia Goerges in the 2nd round.

Mariana Duque, number 75th of the world ranking, beat Australian Daria Gavrilova 5-7, 6-4 and 6-4, and her next match will be against US Madison Keys.

Finally, Pereira won her match over Czech Kristyna Pliskova with sets of 7-5, 3-6 and 9-7, and her next match will be against US star and number one of the world ranking, Serena Williams.
