CARICOM meeting winds up in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Feb 28 (RHC)--The 29th inter-sessional meeting of CARICOM heads of government wound up in the Haitian capital on Tuesday with the signing of various agreements by member countries.

St Vincent and the Grenadines signed on to the new CARICOM multilateral air services agreement (MASA), which expands the scope for airlines owned by CARICOM nationals to provide air services throughout the Community.

Montserrat signed on to the Agreement establishing the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions, and the Agreement establishing the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREE).

Barbados signed the CARICOM arrest warrant treaty and the revised agreement establishing the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

The inter-sessional meeting held in Haiti had climate change at the center of its discussions .

During the event, Haitian president Jovenel Moise, current chair of CARICOM announced he was organizing an international conference aimed at strengthening the mechanisms of resilience to the effects of climate change and the management of natural disasters in the Caribbean.
