Mexico City, April 13 (RHC)-- A group of Central American immigrants moving in a caravan through Mexico toward the United States have gathered in front of the U.S. Embassy in the Mexican capital to protest against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Protesters from different countries, including El Salvador and Honduras, demonstrated in front of the U.S. diplomatic mission headquarters on Friday.  Organizers of the caravan said they aimed to raise awareness about the plight of thousands of immigrants like themselves who flee poverty and violence in their home countries each year by crossing Mexico to reach the United States.

The caravan this year has diminished in number, as Mexican officials have attempted to hamper their journey.  Irineo Mujica, the organizer of the caravan, said what remained of the caravan would visit the Basilica of Mexico’s patron saint and seek meetings with the representatives of the United Nations and the Organization of American States.  “We are looking for some reaction, some change in the policies,” Mujica said.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who has promised to build a wall on the border with Mexico to stop immigrants from entering, has voiced anger at the caravan and the Mexican government.
