Caracas, September 6 (RHC) -- The Venezuelan government and the United Nations signed an agreement on technical cooperation Wednesday to collaborate on the return of Venezuelan immigrants to the country through the Return to the Homeland Plan.

During a meeting of Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza with UN representatives, the Venezuelan government agreed to accept assistance from the UN to help them secure support from South American governments that have been unwilling to assist in the effort.

“We must guarantee the human rights of our countrymen and woman, whose rights to work and to a salary have been violated,” Vice President Rodriguez said in a joint press conference following the meeting.

Venezuela has organized recently several airlifts for return home of their nationals as part of the plan. The government facilitated last week the return of 89 citizens from Peru and 185 from the state of Roraima, in Brazil. This Thursday a group of 92 Venezuelans in Ecuador also arrived back in Venezuela, and hundreds more have registered in the program and are waiting for government-sponsored air transport.

In August, the Venezuelan government led by President Nicolas Maduro issues a series of economic reforms to stabilize the economy. Maduro has guaranteed the situation in Venezuela will improve and has asked Venezuelan migrant to return and help in the process of economic recovery.
