Washington, February 24 (PL)-- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo repeated on Sunday that a military aggression against Venezuela was possible, and affirmed that the days of the constitutional president of that nation, Nicolás Maduro -- in his words -- "are numbered."

"Every option is on the table, we are going to do the things that must be done ...", he responded to Fox News television when asked about a possible military operation by the Pentagon.

In another interview with the CNN news network, Pompeo said Sunday that the "Maduro days are numbered."

As part of the campaign against Caracas, The Hill newspaper revealed that National Security Adviser John Bolton suspended a planned trip to South Korea to monitor the situation in the South American nation.

During an interview earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump also considered as an option a military intervention in Venezuela to try to overthrow Maduro.

"Well, I do not want to say that. But certainly, it is something that is in ... it is an option, " commented the president when he was questioned during the CBS television program Face the Nation about sending U.S. troops to that country.

Days before, U.S. National Security Advisro John Bolton said that Washington had no plans for an imminent attack, but also clarified that "all options remain on the table."

Recently, Bolton was photographed at a press conference in the White House with a yellow notepad with the phrase "5,000 troops to Colombia," where the Pentagon has military bases that could be used by the Southern Command to launch an attack on Venezuelan territory.

The Maduro government, re-elected with 67 percent of the vote in May of last year, accused the White House and several of its allies of launching a coup.

As part of the strategy, the Oval Office backed the opposition deputy Juan Guaidó, who proclaimed himself 'interium president' Venezuela.
