Caracas, March 25 (RHC) – The committee of the Union of South American Nations, UNASUR -- called to follow the political dialogue in Venezuela -- is meeting in Caracas Tuesday and Wednesday, Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño announced.

“The UNASUR committee established to follow the political dialogue in Venezuela will be holding its first meeting in Caracas on March 25/26”, twitted Patiño.  Last week, the Ecuadorean foreign minister had anticipated that before the end of March, a UNASUR mission of foreign ministers would be visiting Venezuela, in what could be “an useful contribution to dialogue.”

A UNASUR resolution adopted on March 12th calls for the establishment of a commission of foreign ministers to "accompany, support and advise the peace dialogue convened by the government of Venezuela."

In addition, the text also acknowledges the initiative launched by President Nicolas Maduro, which seeks to promote dialogue with "all political forces and social actors in order to achieve greater understanding and peace.”

The document also expresses concern about "any threats to the independence and sovereignty of Venezuela," rejecting any attempt to overthrow the legitimate government by undemocratic or unconstitutional means.

Venezuela has been the scene of violent anti-government actions since early February, which have left 36 people dead and hundreds of others injured.
