Caracas, April 9 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said on Monday that the Bolivarian government will continue ensuring that its oil arrives in Cuba, despite the sanctions imposed last week by the United States on 34 oil tankers dedicated to transporting crude from Venezuela to the island.

“We will always fulfill Venezuelan promises and, of course, the commitments to brother peoples like Cuba and to the Venezuelan people,” Arreaza said at a press conference when asked about the US sanctions on shipments of Venezuelan crude oil to Cuba.

Venezuela’s top diplomat said that he could not reveal the strategy whereby the crude would continue to get to Cuba, but he noted that “We are experts at guerrilla operations.”

“Even when the conventional power of capitalism attacks you, you have to know how to respond by unconventional avenues, always respecting international law. We are experts,” he said.

The measures against the Venezuelan cargo vessels – which are owned by state-run oil company PDVSA – also affect two other firms: the Liberia-based Ballito Shipping Incorporated and the Greece-based ProPer In Management Incorporated.

After the US announcement, the government of Nicolas Maduro  said it will resort to the appropriate legal avenues, adding that the measure was “unacceptable.”

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel also condemned the US move.
