Bruselas, April 11 (RHC)-- Former Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa described as criminal the decision of president Lenin Moreno to hand Wikileaks founder Julian Assange over to U.K. authorities.

Assange was literally dragged out of the Ecuadorean Embassy in London where he had spent the last six years. The move was authorized after Lenin Moreno withdrew his asylum status.

Writing on his tweeter account, Correa blasted the move, calling Moreno ‘the worst traitor ever in the history of Ecuador and all of Latin America.’

The former Ecuadorian head of state warned that the decision puts the life of the Australian-born cyberactivist at risk, while at the same time it discredits Ecuador before the eyes of the world, as it has failed in its obligations to protect Assange, who was granted Ecuadorian citizenship last year.

The removal operation took place only one day after WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief Kristinn Hrafnsson claimed that an extensive spying operation was conducted against Assange in the Ecuadorean Embassy. During a media conference, Hrafnsson said that the operation was designed to get Assange extradited.
