Washington, July 17 (RHC)— The US House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday condemning president Donald Trump for a set of racist tweets aimed at four democratic Congresswomen

But first, lawmakers rejected a vote on whether to sanction House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for violating rules of decorum when she called the president´s tweets racist.

The symbolic house resolution, which was passed 240-187, "strongly condemns" Trump's "racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color."

Pelosi urged members to support the resolution, saying that doing anything less would amount to a “shocking rejection” of democratic values.

The vote was largely along party lines, but four republicans broke with their party to admonish Trump.

The targets of Trump´s attack, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., appeared before reporters Monday in a collective and blistering show of force to rebut Trump's social media and verbal volleys against them.

“He's launching a blatantly racist attack on four duly elected members of the United States House of Representatives, all of whom are women of color,” said Omar, a Minnesota congresswoman. “This is the agenda of white nationalists,” she said.
