Managua, July 18 (RHC)-- Solidarity organizations visiting Nicaragua to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the triumph of the Popular Sandinista Revolution paid tribute to those who gave their lives for the revolutionary process.

Delegations from Latin American, European and Asian countries laid floral offerings in the mausoleums that preserve the memory of commanders Carlos Fonseca, Tomás Borges and Santos López, fighters against the Somoza dictatorship and founders of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN).

FSLN Deputy Secretary for International Relations, Carlos Fonseca Terán, gave a brief explanation of the life and work of these patriots, while stressing that their legacy is more alive today than ever in the generations that give continuity to the struggle for national sovereignty initiated by Augusto César Sandino.

Some 500 foreign guests have confirmed their attendance to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the triumph of the Popular Sandinista Revolution.

Cuba´s first vice president,  Salvador Valdes, accompanied by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, placed white flowers before the tombs of Carlos Fonseca Amador, Santos Lopez and Tomás Borge, in the Plaza de la Revolución, in Managua.

Upon his arrival in the Nicaraguan capital, the Cuban vice-president told the media that the delegation came to pay tribute to Sandino, Carlos Fonseca Amador and the figures who made Nicaragua's independence possible.

The high executive said at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport that in the name of the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, the government and its people he wanted to convey "a greeting and recognition for an event of such significance, which brought to Nicaragua so much sovereignty, freedom and independence."

He expressed his hope that this Central American country will continue to advance along a path of opportunities and satisfaction for the Nicaraguan people.  And he recalled that July 27th will also mark 40 years of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Nicaragua -- a long friendship and solidarity.
