Mexico City, February 19 (RHC)-- The NGO Stop Kidnapping (Alto Al Secuestro) Tuesday denounced that 410 women were kidnapped in Mexico in 2019 and specified that about 90 percent of the abducted women suffered sexual violence.

"In 2018, 1,834 kidnappings were registered, 330 of which were committed against women, equivalent to 17.9 percent. In 2019, 1,887 cases were reported, 410 of which happened against women. This figure amounts to 21.7 percent, which means that more and more women are victims."

The Mexican NGO also reported that the majority of women who were victims of sexual violence did not formally file complaints with the authorities.

"And we cannot blame them for not doing so," the NGO said and added that "we blame the criminals who attack them, the justice system that fails them and the society that revictimizes them."

On Tuesday, hundreds of women gathered in the Zocalo square, where the headquarters of the Mexican government is located, to protest against the authorities' slowness to punish femicides.

Across the country, outraged citizens have been carrying out similar actions to reject the murder of Ingrid Escamilla, a 25-year-old woman stabbed, skinned and dismembered by her partner, who threw her body remains down the drain.

The Mexicans are also rejecting another brutal case of femicide: the death of a 7-year-old girl who was kidnapped from the Tlahuac municipality on Feb. 11.

Her dead body, which appeared on Monday in a dump located in southern Mexico City, had traces that she was tortured.
