La Paz, April 30 (RHC) – The Supreme Electoral Council of Bolivia (TSE) has set October 12th as the date for general elections in that South American country. Bolivians are called to elect the President, Vice President, congressmen and senators, plus the supranational parliament.

According to the government body, if no candidate is able to achieve 50.1 percent of the vote, authorities will call for a runoff vote on December 7th.

Incumbent Bolivian President, Evo Morales, is slated to run for a third term in these elections. Under Bolivia's constitution, presidents are only allowed to serve two consecutive terms.

But Bolivia's Constitutional Court ruled that Morales's first term should not count because it predated the current constitution, which was amended in 2009.

Past opinion polls suggest Morales enjoys strong support, with 41% of people saying they would vote for him, a little more than 17% for Samuel Doria Medina of the opposition National Unity Party, his closest contender.
