London, August 16 (RHC)-- In front of the Bank of England headquarters in London, more than one hundred people demanded the delivery of Venezuelan gold to the government of Nicolás Maduro.

The demonstration was called by the Viva Venezuela campaign of the Revolutionary Communist Group.  Protesters chanted slogans in support of the Bolivarian Revolution and speakers at the rally in front of the Bank of England accused the banking institution of violating the sovereignty of the South American country and of violating international law.

Demonstators also denounced the hypocrisy and anti-democratic behavior exhibited by the British ruling class, and the complicity of the major media, in addition to highlighting the achievements of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela.

Last July, the London High Court ruled against the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), which sued its British counterpart for refusing to hand over the equivalent of $1.2 billion of the gold it holds in its coffers, which it needs to finance the fight against COVID-19 in the South American nation.

According to Judge Nigel Teare at the time, these reserves were to be handed over to the board appointed by Venezuela's self-proclaimed president, Juan Guaidó, who the British government recognized as its leader in 2019 through a declaration by then foreign minister Jeremy Hunt.
