London, October 23 (RHC)-- Protesters gathered in London to condemn what they see as the complicity of The Guardian Newspaper in the persecution of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.  The whistleblower is currently imprisoned and on trial to be possibly extradited to the United States.

Julian Assange is awaiting the verdict of a trial aimed at extraditing him to the United States where he would likely be charged under the espionage act.

Organizers of the protest told reporters that The Guardian is known to have released Wikileaks documents in its reporting.  But they say that there is a stark difference between the way that Julian Assange is being treated for releasing those same documents, to the journalists at the Guardian who are still sitting in their offices.

Julian Assange has remained in prison since his expulsion from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London last year.  The conditions in which he has been subjected to inside of prison have prompted condemnation from human rights organizations such as Amnesty International.

With Julian Assange’s fate still hanging in the balance, the demonstrations continue, many seeing this case to be about the future of honest journalism.
