Bogota, January 29 (RHC)-- The Permanent Peoples' Tribunal (PPT) reported on its Facebook social network account that it initiated a symbolic trial against the State of Colombia to determine whether it is "responsible for political genocide and crimes against peace," and also whether it has acted with impunity in the face of these facts.

"This is the 48th session of the PPT, an international ethics tribunal based at the Lelio and Lisli Basso Foundation in Italy, and will run until March 27," according to the website of the institution hosting the prosecution sessions.

The legal process will be extended for two months for social, ethnic, victims, human rights and political organizations to denounce "the genocidal practices and in general the political, continued and extended genocide suffered by its members and collectives throughout its existence," states the TPP in its Facebook profile.

"The crimes against peace that occurred after the signing of the Final Peace Agreement between the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and the Colombian State," as well as "the impunity and absence of justice in the face of all these facts will also be exposed," added TPP.

The secretary general of the TPP, Gianni Tognoni, highlighted during the opening of the session that "the court has considered the request of several organizations to give greater visibility to this claim, given the seriousness of the situation in Colombia.  It is impressive to see how exactly after the peace process, Colombia disappeared from the public view, nobody knows what is happening in Colombia", he added.

Around 126 social organizations and more than 170 human rights defenders will be at the disposal of the PPT to offer their statements, as well as artists, academics and political personalities.
