Managua, March 17 (RHC)-- Nicaragua has received a donation of 135 thousand doses of vaccines against Covid-19 from AstraZeneca through the international mechanism Covax.

The batch of vaccines were received at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in the Nicaraguan capital by the Minister of Health Martha Reyes, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Carlos Saenz and the WHO/PAHO representative, Ana Solis Ortega.

"Today the Pan American Health Organization on behalf of the Covid vaccine mechanism, known as Covax, delivers 135,000 of the 432,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines that have been allocated for Nicaragua for this semester," said Ana Solis.

The WHO/PAHO representative pointed out that the batch that arrived in the Central American country will serve to support Nicaragua's efforts to prevent hospitalizations and deaths due to coronavirus.

Martha Reyes, Minister of Health, said that thanks to the donation, they will be able to expand the vaccination plan against the coronavirus to people over 60 years of age, with two or more chronic diseases and health personnel.
