Brasilia, March 29 (RHC)-- Nearly 300 Brazilian diplomats have requested the resignation of Ernesto Araújo as Minister of Foreign Affairs, due to what they consider to be his conduct incompatible with constitutional principles and elementary codes of career.

Several media sources and social networks have published or made reference to the content of the letter, which adds to criticisms and complaints against the foreign minister in recent days.

In the unsigned text, the diplomats point to the serious situation caused by COVID-19 in Brazil, which already exceeds 12 million infected and 310,000 deaths.  In addition, they object to the role played by the Foreign Ministry in response to the pandemic, and state that "errors in the conduct of foreign policy result in concrete losses to the population."

According to the letter, "in addition to the more immediate problems, such as the lack of vaccines and supplies, or the prohibition for Brazilians to enter other nations, long-term damage to the country's international credibility is accumulating."

Among the latter, it refers to "a series of diplomatic incidents, with serious damage to international relations and the image" of the country.
