Brasilia, April 4 (RHC)-- In the midst of the worst scenario of the COVID pandemic, Brazil has registered nearly 3,000 deaths and more than 70,000 infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

According to data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), 2,922 deaths and 70,238 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last day.  Brazil, with 210 million inhabitants, has suffered a total of 328,206 deaths due to COVID-19 and 12,910,082 cases since the beginning of the health crisis, a little more than a year ago.

The average curve of deaths, calculated over seven days, continues to grow steeply in Brazil.  An average of 3,013 people die daily in Brazil as a result of COVID-19.

The South American giant is going through the worst phase of the pandemic and in the last week broke several records of deaths and contagions, at a time when hospitals in a large part of the country are on the verge of collapse due to the pandemic.

According to researchers from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the actual number of deaths could exceed 410,000.  "With the increase of contagions and deaths from covid-19 throughout the country, vacations such as Easter, when families tend to gather, tend to become causes of aggravation of the pandemic," Fiocruz published in the launch of the booklet "Cartilha Covid-19 - preserving life is the best way to celebrate Easter."
