Caracas, April 20 (RHC)-- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro held a meeting on Monday with the executive director of the United Nations World Food Program, David Beasley, where an agreement for food support to children in early education in the South American country was signed.

The Venezuelan leader said: "I want to thank the effort that has been made, for this step we are taking by signing this agreement to carry out food support programs, food assistance to children in early education."  In this sense, the Venezuelan president announced that this is the first step of a series of projects that will support the nation's food system.

Beasly emphasized that the multilateral organization will work hand in hand with Venezuelan authorities.  "It is in times like these that the United Nations comes together to do what we can do (...) we hope to work together for the needs of the children and the people," he added.

Nicolas Maduro recalled that the delegations of both parties had been working and talking for three years, and celebrated that the signing of the agreement happens this Monday, when "Venezuela celebrates 211 years of the first cry for independence and freedom."

"I want to salute and thank the effort made by our delegations and the World Food Program," concluded President Maduro, after personally thanking Venezuelan and Program officials for their continued work to achieve the agreement.
