Lima, May 11 (RHC)-- The candidates for the presidency of Peru, Pedro Castillo and Keiko Fujimori, have  pledged to respect democratic institutions in the South American country if they win the second round of elections.

The leftist Castillo of Peru Libre subscribed the proclamation with 12 democratic commitments raised by the Catholic hierarchy, evangelical churches, human rights organizations.  "The commitments for democracy [...] are not signed in a set of the television stations that are inclined to the great corruption, the commitments of the people are signed before the people", said Castillo from the Peruvian city of Iquitos.

In signing the document, both candidates pledged to maintain democratic institutionality, to "respect and defend the fundamental right to life and guarantee the human rights of all inhabitants" and freedom of the press.
