Colombian troops mobilized

Bogota, May 29 (RHC)-- Colombian President Iván Duque has ordered a maximum military deployment in the city of Cali and in the department of Valle del Cauca, after protests took place on the one-month anniversary of the National Strike demonstrations against the neoliberal policies of his government.

From the city of Cali, the head of state made the statement by specifying that "as of tonight begins the maximum deployment of military assistance to the National Police in the city of Cali and in the department of Valle. This deployment will be carried out by highly experienced officers".

The decision of the Colombian president comes after, in the afternoon, several organizations and users of social networks evidenced how an officer of the Attorney General's Office fired indiscriminately against a demonstration in the La Luna sector of Cali, leaving several wounded.

On the 31st day of the National Strike, hundreds of Colombians continue to mobilize in the streets to demand Duque to meet the demands presented by the Committee, and not to respond with more deployments of the public force, which to date has registered more than 3,000 acts of police violence in the protests.
