The National Strike Committee (CNP) of Colombia announced on Tuesday new strategies of struggle

Bogota, June 15 (RHC)-- The National Strike Committee (CNP) of Colombia announced on Tuesday new strategies of struggle to avoid violence and deaths that occur as a result of state repression against protesters, and temporarily suspended the Wednesday mobilizations that have been taking place in the country since April 28th.

The announcement was made by Francisco Maltés, president of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT), one of the member organizations of the CNP.   For next July 20th, the Committee called for a big concert to commemorate the one year anniversary of the presentation of the Emergency Statement to the National Government.

It was also announced that a great national dialogue will be developed, in which the Committee expects the participation of unions, sectors, citizens and universities, among others, in order to build several demands with the points of the emergency plan.

"Taking into account that the CNP called for April 28 a National Strike, it is decided within the framework of the same, to temporarily interrupt the periodic actions," indicated Maltés, reaffirming his willingness to dialogue and the action plan that will follow in the coming days.

"The social mobilization is going to continue in Colombia, more mobilizations will come later.  At this moment and this juncture, we will hold a huge concert on July 20, when it will be one year since the presentation of the emergency plan," he added.

The members of the strike indicated that on July 20 there will be a great mobilization which will be accompanied by the presentation of seven initiatives and projects in the Congress of the Republic, related to the list of demands.

After 49 days of the strike, the CNP expects to develop the Emergency Statement by interrupting some actions to group new organizations in the South American country in view of the failure in the negotiations with the Government and hopes that the Congress will listen to the popular clamor.

It is expected to present in a big sit-in at the Congress on July 20 a package of five reforms, on health, taxes, public education, among other issues on the list, after the government of Iván Duque has turned a deaf ear to the popular demand.
