Bolivian authorities call for testimony by Carlos Mesa for coup d'état of 2019

La Paz, June 15 (RHC)-- Bolivian authorities have requested the testimony of former president Carlos Mesa and more than 30 other former officials and politicians for the coup d'etat carried out in November 2019.    The president of the Bolivian Chamber of Deputies, Freddy Mamani, has requested that the Prosecutor's Office summon former President Carlos Mesa for the coup d'état that was consummated against Evo Morales in November 2019.

Mamani asserted that the request comes after the former dictator, Jeanine Áñez, declared before the authorities that at the time, activist Carlos Mesa opposed Adriana Salvatierra (who at the time of the coup was president of the Senate) to occupy the functions of the Executive while new elections were called.

"We ask the attorney general to summon Carlos Mesa to testify on the basis of the statements made by Jeanine Áñez on the subject of the 2019 coup d'état," requested the president of the Chamber.

Mamani emphasized that from the Chamber is contributing to clarify details of possible international aid to the authorities of the then de facto government, "we know that from Ecuador 5,000 hand grenades, 500 sound and flash grenades, 2,383 long-range projectiles of 37 mm and 560 short-range projectiles of 37 mm caliber were contributed," he added.

"We have made contact with some Ecuadorian parliamentarians and we are going to meet to have more elements and inform the Bolivian people," Mamani pointed out in a press conference.
