Bogota, June 29 (RHC)-- The non-governmental organizations (NGOs) Indepaz and Temblores have denounced that during the two months of the National Strike in Colombia, which has been developed under the "excessive use of violence by the security forces," 75 murders have been committed.

In a report, the organizations indicated that of these 75 homicides, 44 have been committed by the security forces. The report, which compiles information from April 28, when the strike began, until June 28, specified that of the total number of murders, two were committed against women and 73 against men.

Likewise, by age, 32 of those murdered were between 18 and 25 years old; 19 between 26 and 50 years old; 16 without age identification; five were minors and three between 60 and 80 years old.

The report establishes that during the period 83 people have been victims of eye injuries by projectiles launched by police since the beginning of the protests.  In addition, 28 people have been sexually assaulted.  Among the acts of gender-based violence are the following practices: Verbal sexual harassment; Discrimination; and Threats with sexual violence, the text added.

Indepaz and Temblores documented that 1,832 people have been arbitrarily detained by the public forces and 1,468 people have denounced physical violence by the police forces.

The NGOs specified that in total the cases of police violence during the National Strike total 3,486.   They maintained that "the responsibility of the members of the public forces has to do with evidently irregular actions such as omissions and complicities which must be investigated by the control agencies and international instances".
