La Paz, August 8 (RHC)-- Bolivian President Luis (Lucho) Arce called on the Armed Forces to regain the confidence of the people and consolidate democracy in the country that is in its process after the coup d'état of 2019.

"The Armed Forces must regain the trust of the people, to advance in the consolidation of intercultural democracy and a decolonized, depatriarchalized Plurinational State, free of racism, oppression and discrimination," urged the president.

Alluding to the coup d'état against Evo Morales and the de facto government led by Jeanine Áñez, the head of state said that the unconstitutional behavior of some military personnel does not represent the values and principles of the Armed Forces.

"The recent coup d'état of November 2019 to which some bad military contributed against the majority feeling of the Armed Forces, tried to muddy again the military institution, with massacres that have affected our people and hurt the popular sentiment," said President Arce.

The Bolivian leader said that in this period, the military institution begins a stage of restructuring, "the people are waiting to walk together and the people will never turn their backs on them because they will never knock on the doors of barracks to ask them to conspire against democracy," he added.

"The Armed Forces should never again be part of coups d'état or constitutional ruptures.  They should not be placed under the orders of any hegemonic power nor should they receive weapons from other countries or ammunition to repress the Bolivian people," affirmed President Luis Arce.
