Brazil reports 600,425 cumulative deaths
Brasilia, October 9 (RHC)-- The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Rio de Paz organized an intervention on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to show solidarity with the families of the 600,000 nationals killed by COVID-19.
With a symbolic protest, the organization placed hundreds of white handkerchiefs in memory of the victims. From its Twitter account, the group pointed out that this initiative is "in memory of the 600 thousand people killed by COVID and in repudiation of how the Federal Government has been treating the health crisis".
Rio de Paz informed that "we and the cab driver Marcio Antonio will deliver the handkerchiefs to Senator Randolfe Rodrigues at the closing of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry of COVID-19 in Brasilia." The NGO also announced that the demonstration was called by the senator at the CPI of COVID.
The formation referred that Marcio "became a symbol of this struggle when he put back the crosses in Copacabana, during one of our demonstrations, removed by a man opposed to our actions."
For its part, the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) expressed its solidarity to the families of those who lost their lives to the virus, "avoidable deaths have those responsible. And they must be held responsible for them. Enough of genocide."
According to epidemiologist Pedro Curi Hallal, of the 600,000 deaths, 400,000 could have been avoided. "600,000 people died of COVID-19 in Brazil. Of those, 480,000 would be alive if we had a mortality rate equal to the world average. That's all I wanted to say. It was definitely not a little flu," Curi Hallal said.
The National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) in the update on people infected with COVID-19, specified that this Friday 18,172 new cases were reported for a cumulative total of 21,550,730 diagnosed with Sar Cov-2.
The health organization informed that Brazil reports 600,425 accumulated deaths. In an official statement, it indicated that progress in public health policies will not be possible with insufficient resources for the health sector and without "the indispensable union among all".
"Our commitment is to use our best efforts so that the constitutional guarantee of the health of Brazilians becomes a concrete fact and within everyone's reach, in every corner of our country," added Conass.
