Caracas, October 14 (RHC)-- Venezuela's Vice-President for Public Works and Services, Néstor Reverol, announced that the causes of an interruption that affected 30 percent of electric power in the Capital District this Thursday morning are being investigated and said that it is not ruled out that it is another attack to the country's electric system.

He explained that there was a detachment of two 69 kv lines in the Papelón-Convento sector, which affected the Convento substation and caused the de-energization of others (Chacao, Magallanes, Santa Rosa and Cota Mil).

He said that, thanks to the quick actions deployed by workers of the sector, almost 90 percent of the lost electric load has already been recovered.  He affirmed that it cannot be ruled out that this is yet another attack on the electric system, organized by enemies of the country to violate social rights and cause chaos and unrest to the entire population.

He specified that a team of experts from the General Directorate of Claims and the General Directorate of Security of Corporación Eléctrica Nacional (Corpoelec) is investigating the causes of what happened.

He added that at this moment the fallen conductors are being replaced, the detachment of which also caused a fire outbreak in Warairepano, which was totally controlled by the forest firefighters.

He also reported that a sector comprising Lagunita, Palo Verde, Hoyo de las Tapias and Caicaguana, whose service will be recovered in the next few hours, is still pending.
