Lima, November 28 (RHC)-- A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.5, with a depth of 131 kilometers, was registered this morning in the Amazonas region, informed the National Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).

The National Institute of Civil Defense indicated that the telluric movement registered at 05H52 local time (10H52 GMT) had its epicenter at 98 kilometers from Santa María de Nieva (Amazonas).
Local authorities of the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) have not yet reported personal or material damages due to the strong earthquake, but landslides were reported on some roads.

The well-known tower of the church of La Jalca Grande, built in the 16th century and considered Historical Heritage of Peru, collapsed in the Peruvian province of Chachapoyas in Amazonas as a result of a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.5.   The church and atrium of La Jalca Grande, made of stone, is the oldest Catholic temple in the Amazon.
