Managua, December 14 (RHC)-- Nicaragua has received 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines to face the COVID-19 pandemic, which were donated by the Government of China.  The Minister of Health, Martha Reyes, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Carlos Saenz, were on hand for the arrival of the cargo at the Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport in the Nicaraguan capital, Managua.

A delegation headed by the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Costa Rica, Yi Sun, was also at the airport in Managua.  Press media highlighted that this is the first batch of a donation that will amount to one million doses, which confirms the state of relations between both countries.

On behalf of President Daniel Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo and the Nicaraguan people, Laureano Ortega, the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, thanked what he described as "a gesture of solidarity, cooperation, friendship and fraternity of the people and Government of the People's Republic of China".

He valued that Nicaragua and China share objectives and a revolutionary and humanist spirit, hence their work in favor of "peace, social justice and the common good."   And he added that his country greatly appreciates "the policies carried out by President Xi Jinping and the Government of China, the common sense community they have been developing and the Belt and Road Initiative."

Last Friday, the two countries signed a joint communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations.  At the same time, Nicaragua expressed its support for the one-China principle after breaking diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
