President of Peru denies participation in irregular acts

Lima, December 23 (RHC)-- Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, denied on Tuesday having participated in any irregularity and ratified the decision to collaborate with the investigation of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office that involves him.

Pedro Castillo went to the Public Prosecutor's Office in the morning hours in order to communicate with the prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida Ávalos, and express his willingness to collaborate with justice, in order to carry out the necessary investigations.

In reference to the preliminary investigation on alleged irregularities in the purchase of bio-diesel for more than $70 million, by the state-owned Petroperu, to a company whose manager previously met with the president.  "I emphatically reject having participated in irregular acts. The doors of the Palace are open to support any measure that seeks to clarify doubts," said the president in his Twitter account.

During the meeting with prosecutor Zoraida Ávalos, the head of state requested the lifting of the bank, tax and call secrecy, "an unprecedented measure."  Pedro Castillo affirmed that he would have forbidden the entry of the prosecutors who searched the offices of the government palace, to the office of the general secretary of the presidency, Carlos Jaico.

He added that he went to the headquarters of the Public Prosecutor's Office to request that his statement in a previous investigation on undue negotiations for military promotions be brought forward to December 28th.
