Brasilia, December 28 (RHC)-- The former president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has requested the collaboration of the Armed Forces (FF.AA.) in the recovery actions in the state of Bahia, severely damaged by the floods that occurred between December 23th and 25th.

The rains started since the beginning of November, however they intensified when the last days of December arrived.  On Sunday, the dams in the region of Itambé and the border area between Anagé and Vitória da Conquista overflowed, which required the immediate evacuation of the personnel in the area, after 14 hours of torrential rains.

According to Bahia's Superintendency of Civil Protection and Defense, around 20,000 people were affected by the heavy storms, which caused landslides in the locality, resulting in 16,000 people being displaced from their homes.

Likewise, the authorities of the province report 20 fatalities from the events, as well as 72 cities, in 37 municipalities buried under water; in addition, numerous localities will be affected in the electric service, without counting the carts that were cut off.
