San Juan, February 11 (RHC)-- The Department of Health of Puerto Rico (DSPR) reported Thursday a cumulative total of 602 deaths due to COVID-19 during the past month of January.  According to the agency, the number of deaths is the highest in the Caribbean country as a result of the Sars-Cov-2 virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

It should be noted that the positivity rate in Puerto Rico is 11.47 percent, which represents double the percentage figures estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO).  Likewise, health authorities indicated that the nation accumulates to date 675 fatalities from the disease over the course of 2022; while March 2020, Puerto Rico reports 3,994 deaths from COVID-19.

"We report that 228 of those who died in the last 30 days were not vaccinated, and another 294 deaths did not have the booster dose," stressed the DSPR.  In this regard, it was reported that out of 1,172,525 nationals immunized with anti-COVID doses, 79 people died, who had completed the vaccination schedule.
