Iran’s top human rights official says the Israeli regime, owing to the United States’ unswerving support, will continue its “unspeakable crimes” with no end in sight, urging the international community to make a stand to put an end to Tel Aviv’s atrocities.

Ramallah, May 17 (RHC)-- Iran’s top human rights official says the Israeli regime, owing to the United States’ unswerving support, will continue its “unspeakable crimes” with no end in sight, urging the international community to make a stand to put an end to Tel Aviv’s atrocities.

Kazem Gharibabadi, the secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights and the Judiciary chief’s deputy for international affairs, made the remarks in a tweet on Sunday in reaction to Israeli forces' attack on mourners attending the funeral procession of veteran Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was brutally killed by Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

“How can one expect the blood-thirsty Israeli regime which headshots journalists to respect their dead bodies?” Gharibabadi asked.  “Enjoying the United States’ unwavering support for decades, the regime’s unspeakable crimes will continue with no end in sight – unless the international community makes a stand!”

The top human rights official also posted a graphic video of Israeli forces’ violence against mourners during Abu Akleh’s burial ceremony.

The Israeli troops assaulted the Palestinian mourners to prevent them from carrying the coffin of Abu Akleh from the St Louis French Hospital in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of the occupied East al-Quds to the Roman Catholic church in the Old City, before taking her to the Mount Zion Cemetery, where she was laid to rest alongside her deceased parents.

Violence erupted as the Palestinian mourners began to move Abu Akleh’s casket from hospital in Sheikh Jarrah in the occupied al-Quds.  The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that at least 33 people were wounded in the Israeli attack on the funeral procession.

Ahead of the funeral, the Israeli regime had imposed a number of restrictions, including on the number of mourners attending the service and the use of Palestinian flags and posters.  The occupying forces even stormed Abu Akleh’s home earlier in the day, attempting to tear down a Palestinian flag that was erected in her honor.

Abu Akleh was highly regarded by viewers across the Muslim world, particularly in Palestine, where she was at the forefront of covering Israeli crimes and occupation for more than two decades.  Her killing has proven yet again that the Israeli regime is willing to go to such great lengths to conceal its oppression of the Palestinians.

Video footage from the moments after Abu Akleh was shot showed the 51-year-old journalist wearing a blue vest marked “Press.” At least two of her colleagues who were with her said they had deliberately come under Israeli sniper fire.
