Buenos Aires, May 29 (RHC)-- Argentina will hold a meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in parallel with the XI Summit of the Americas, to be held in the United States.
Those working on the meeting pointed out that "the event will be held in parallel, without conflicting schedules, and the spirit is to remain united as a bloc" in this South American country which holds the pro tempore presidency of CELAC.
Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, the countries that were excluded by the host country from the XI Summit to be held in Los Angeles, California, will be able to attend.
According to local sources, the parallel event is being coordinated by the Argentinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero, and his Mexican counterpart, Marcelo Ebrard, in recent meetings.
In addition to this summit, the possibility of the excluded nations participating through digital platforms or with the presence of envoys to intervene in the debates on health, where so far no exclusions have been declared, has been discussed.
Argentinean President Alberto Fernández expressed his disagreement with the exclusions to the U.S. government advisor Christopher Dodd during his visit to the Casa Rosada.
According to presidential spokesperson Gabriela Cerruti, the president considers that "a Summit of the Americas has to be a summit without exclusions." This position is being defended not only by him, but also by Foreign Minister Cafiero in the debate forums prior to the Summit.
