San Juan, June 8 (RHC)-- The National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) recorded on Tuesday that Costa Rica reached last May an interannual inflation equivalent to 8.71 percent, the highest since 2009 when it marked 9.52 percent.

In this sense, the institute specified that determined by the consumer price index (CPI), the inflation rate of the Central American country during May was 1.44 percent, while the accumulated in 2022 amounts to 5.48.

INEC also pointed out that the main factors influencing the CPI in May were the increase in the prices of transportation, information and communication, food and non-alcoholic beverages.

It also added that the general index was 108.957, higher than last April, when it reported 107.407.  On the other hand, according to INEC, of the 13 divisions grouped in the CPI, only rent and housing services, as well as clothing and footwear, showed decreases.

It should be noted that, of the 289 goods and services to measure inflation, 190 increased in price, for 66 percent of the total, 24 percent decreased and 10 percent showed no variation.
