Quito, June 16 (RHC)-- The National Union of Educators of Ecuador (UNE) called for a mobilization this Thursday in the 24 provinces of the country to denounce the Government of Guillermo Lasso due to the delay in the implementation of the salary equalization and the regulation that endorses it, the Organic Law of Intercultural Education (LOEI).

The teachers' union rejects the delay of its publication in the Official Gazette by the Chief Executive, who requested a modification to the Constitutional Court's ruling on the reforms to the LOEI.

As of the approval by the Ecuadorian Court, the modifications should be published in a term not exceeding 90 days. In view of this, the UNE addressed Lasso demanding that he stop maneuvering with the purpose of preventing the LOEI from being enforced.

The mobilization of educators is part of the indefinite national strike protests called by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) and other organizations.

The teachers demand the immediate ratification by the Constitutional Court against the Government of Ruling Number 2-22-OP, while demanding its publication by the National Assembly.

The educators are also demanding an increase in the budget allocated to education, the moratorium of debts in the different bank models, as well as the creation of new sources of employment.

For its part, the office of the United Nations (UN) in Ecuador "urges unrestricted respect for constitutional and legal guarantees for the exercise of social protest, and for the rules of due process applicable to all persons detained in the framework of demonstrations, in accordance with international human rights standards".

Other sectors and social groups have previously protested against the deterioration of living conditions. Among them are the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) and the youth of the Central University.
