Santo Domingo, July 27 (RHC)-- Dominican doctors are carrying out a series of protests with the aim of demanding improvements for the healthcare system and in rejection of the privatization of the sector.

On Tuesday night, the doctors lit candles in front of the Padre Billini hospital, located in the colonial zone, in rejection of its privatization, among other demands.  Today, Wednesday, the members of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) plan to march to the National Palace, with the aim of demanding that President Luis Abinader pay attention to the crisis in the country's health sector.  Among other activities, the professionals plan to hold staggered strikes.

The president of the CMD, Senén Caba, declared that if circumstances permit, this Wednesday they will hold a simultaneous march with the northern and eastern regions, and then the staggered strikes will follow.

He mentioned that they are going to attack on two fronts: at the public level and at the private level, because both are running roughshod over the doctors and are ignoring the right to work with decorum and dignity.
