The former president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on Wednesday to "intercede for [his] rights and the rights of my Peruvian brothers and sisters who are crying out for justice", in the midst of the legal uncertainty in which he finds himself.

Lima, December 15 (RHC)-- The former president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on Wednesday to "intercede for [his] rights and the rights of my Peruvian brothers and sisters who are crying out for justice", in the midst of the legal uncertainty in which he finds himself.

The former president's request came after the Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation of the Peruvian Judiciary suspended the hearing of the request for preventive detention against Castillo and former Prime Minister Anibal Torres for the alleged crimes of rebellion, conspiracy, abuse of authority and serious disturbance of public tranquility.

In Castillo's letter, made public Wednesday, the former president holds "the judges and prosecutors responsible for what happens in the country.  Millions of thanks to my compatriots for their love and support.  Only the people save the people," he said.

In another letter, also released on Wednesday and signed as "Constitutional President," Castillo expresses his "greetings and gratitude to brothers Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia; Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico; Luis Arce, president of Bolivia; and Alberto Fernández, president of Argentina for their identification and solidarity with my people and our legitimate government."
