Lima, January 7 (RHC)-- The Peruvian Ombudsman's Office reported on Friday that at least 14 people were injured as a result of the security forces' repression of the demonstration against President Dina Boluarte in the southern region of Puno.

The Peruvian entity confirmed the existence of 10 civilians and four policemen injured in the Carlos Monge Medrano hospital in the city of Julicaca, as a result of the repression of the mobilization against the Government and for the release of the former president, Pedro Castillo.  "We managed the necessary actions for the corresponding humanitarian aid," added the Ombudsman's Office.

The authorities of the Carlos Monge Medrano hospital released the status of nine injured, who were admitted to its emergency service since 3 p.m. on Friday.  The health center detailed that four civilians were admitted with gunshot wounds, two others with injuries to the face, while the policemen presented injuries to the eye, hand and foot, and head.

In the capital of the country, Lima, a march that was heading to the Congress headquarters was contained by police officers leaving at least five injured and more than 40 arrested.    Demonstrators in Peru are demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress, the advancement of general elections to 2023 and the convening of a constituent assembly, among other demands.

Since the beginning of the anti-government protests at least 28 people have been killed in the country due to repression by the Army and the Police in only 20 days of protests last December, before the beginning of a Christmas truce.
