Until late on Saturday afternoon, 121 points of traffic disruption were reported throughout Peru due to road blockades by demonstrators who follow the strike.

Lima, January 15 (RHC)-- On the tenth day of the national strike, the Peruvian people mobilized this Saturday in regions such as Lima, Apurimac, Cusco and Puno to demand the resignation of President-designate Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress, the advancement of elections and the convening of a constituent assembly.

In the vicinity of the Plaza San Martin in Lima, thousands of people gathered spontaneously to demand that the Government undertake political changes and listen to the people.  The demonstrators repudiated the massacres perpetrated by the current Cabinet when it violently repressed the popular protests, which began last December 7th.

According to the Ombudsman's Office, there were road blockades and other actions in 33 provinces.  No confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement forces were reported, although in the department of Arequipa, there were reports of attacks on public transportation units to join protests.

The Ombudsman's Office reported mobilizations and roadblocks in Abancay and Andahuaylas (Apurimac), Chincheros and Cusco (Cusco), San Roman and Puno (Puno), as well as the stoppage of activities in Andahuaylas, San Roman and Puno.

At least 121 points with interrupted traffic were reported throughout the country due to road blockades carried out by protesters on Saturday.

According to the updated report of the Superintendencia de Transporte Terrestre, Carga y Mercancías (Sutran), the roadblocks affect 19 national roads affecting 11 departments, mostly located in the south of the country. Among the most affected are Puno, Cusco and Apurimac.

Also, the General Confederation of Peruvian Workers (CGTP) started its second National Assembly of Delegates in Lima over the weekend.  Among other issues, it analyzed the political crisis the country is going through and the call for a great national civic and popular strike to be held in the next few days.

In a previous communiqué, the CGTP stated that in view of the current situation, the workers and the Peruvian people only have "the path of generalized, massive and forceful mobilization" for the Government to reorient its political course, listen to the people and overcome the current crisis.
