San Salvador, January 16 (RHC)-- On Monday, the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) commemorates the 31st anniversary of the peace agreements signed in Mexico in 1992.  

Despite the attempt to stop the arrival of people to the marches to celebrate the anniversary of the Peace Accords in El Salvador, the mobilizations in the streets of the capital took place on Sunday in defense of democracy, the rule of law and against the State of Exception.

Among the participants were labor unions, social movements and civil society to denounce the arbitrary detention of defenders and trade unionists as human rights violations.   The Movement of Victims of the Regime also marched this Sunday to denounce the arbitrary detentions of family members who have been detained under the emergency regime.  Local residents of Bajo Lempa who have also denounced arbitrary detentions joined the march.

"We cannot be indifferent to the oppression of the people," shouted the demonstrators marching from Cuscatlán Park to the Civic Plaza.

Among the participants in the event was Oscar Ortiz, Secretary General of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front Party (FMLN), who together with several militants placed a wreath on the wall in the park that commemorates the more than 75 thousand victims of the war, including the dead and disappeared.

Police and military agents have mobilized on the main highways of the country to stop vehicles transporting demonstrators to the capital.   Some of the points where the roadblocks are located are: Gold highway, highway to Comalapa and Troncal del Norte, Plaza Mundo shopping center. 

The agents explained that they stop departmental and yellow buses heading to downtown San Salvador. They also ask to check the interior of private cars. 

On Saturday night, the Central Sindical Independiente denounced that security authorities had created checkpoints to obstruct citizen participation in the demonstrations.
