Dominican organizations reject possible military intervention in Haiti

Havana, March 29 (RHC) Political and social organizations from the Dominican Republic delivered a letter on Wednesday at the Haitian Embassy in Santo Domingo, in which they expressed their opposition to a possible military intervention in that nation.

Speaking at the document delivery ceremony, the representative of the more than 30 signatory entities, Luz Eneida Mejía, highlighted that in 1987, a new Constitution was adopted in Haiti, which crowned the struggles and mobilizations aimed at overthrowing the bloody dictatorship of the Duvalier family.

Mejía affirmed that the Haitian nation is going through one of the most difficult, tragic and uncertain moments in its history, plunged into a situation of chaos fostered by the oligarchy, successive anti-popular governments, and the interference of international organizations at the service of the interests of the colonial powers.

The representative stated that after the assassination of the former de facto president, Jovenel Moïse, the current government led by Ariel Henry, is denounced by Haitian social organizations for lacking total legality and legitimacy, and for following the mandates of the International Monetary Fund to the letter.

Finally, he denounced that a new military intervention will not provide a sustainable solution as it did not in the past.

He explained that this is incontrovertibly demonstrated by the disaster caused by the United Nations Mission for Stability and the Core Group, made up of ambassadors from various countries, as well as representatives of the UN and the Organization of American States. (Source: Prensa Latina)
