Process begins in Mexico against those involved in death of migrants
Havana, March 31 (RHC) The judicial process began in Ciudad Juárez against a group of people involved in the events that led to a fire in a migrant center in the city, with a balance of 39 deaths.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, SSPC, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, explained that, although initially there were 8 suspects, the judicial process to determine the criminal responsibility of those allegedly involved is currently 5 people.
Previously, at a press conference at the National Palace yesterday afternoon, the Secretary of Security and the Specialized Prosecutor for Human Rights of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), Sara Irene Herrerías, who is handling the case, declared that the federal government detected irregularities on the part of the private security company Camsa, SA de CV, administrator of the burned shelter.
They pointed out that they had only reported 4 employees with 10 uniforms, and the contract with the National Institute of Migration (INM) was for 503 elements in 23 states of the Republic.
In this sense, they indicated that as of this Friday, these tasks will cease and the Federal Protection Service, an agency dependent on the Secretariat, will assume the surveillance and security tasks in the property.
Prosecutor Herrerías clarified that the initial and imputation hearing continues today against those five, although there is another one identified as allegedly responsible for the crime of homicide against 39 migrants and injuries caused to 28 foreigners who were detained in the facilities of the National Institute of Migration (Inami).
In this context, the head of the SSPC said that the "Mexican government will always be on the side of the victims and prioritizes the recovery of 28 people who were injured."
Regarding the injured people, it was announced that it is a migrant already discharged and five Salvadorans, 10 Guatemalans, eight Hondurans and 5 Venezuelans remain hospitalized.
Regarding the deceased migrants, six Hondurans, 7 Salvadorans, 18 Guatemalans, one Colombian and seven Venezuelans have been identified. (Source: Prensa Latina/Jornada)
