It is claimed that Trump obstructed justice in case of secret documents
Havana, April 9 (RHC) - Former Attorney General Bill Barr said today that there is "very good evidence" that former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) tried to prevent authorities from obtaining classified materials after leaving the White House.
“He had no right over those documents. They belonged to the government and there was obstruction in the retention of those materials. I think it's a serious case, so investigators probably have very good evidence going down that road," Barr said.
He reiterated that the investigation of these secret papers is the one that "worried the most" among all the legal problems facing Trump, who is redoubling his efforts to win the Republican nomination for the 2024 elections.
Other ongoing investigations fall on President 45th, including one for his efforts to annul the results of the elections he lost in November 2020; for his instigating role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol; and for facing 34 felony criminal charges, including falsifying business records and conspiracy in connection with multiple hush money payments.
However, Barr argued that Manhattan's case against Trump, in which he has become the first sitting or former president to face criminal charges, is not as serious as the federal investigation into his handling of classified information.
“I think it's an unfair case,” Barr said. “That is not to say that all the legal challenges facing the president are unjustified,” he said.
Barr, who served as Trump's attorney general from 2019 to 2020, has severed relations with the former president since leaving his administration.
Special counsel Jack Smith is leading the investigation into Trump's handling of classified documents after boxes of materials were found at his Mar-a-Lago mansion last year.
After the Federal Bureau of Investigation search, many Republicans criticized federal law enforcement officials, calling the search an unprecedented attack on a former president, signaling the politicization of the justice system.
The investigation of the classified documents is one of two federal investigations into the former president by Smith, who is also in charge of the investigation into Trump's attempt to annul the 2020 election. (Source: Prensa Latina)
